A Smart Home App: Redesign
Switcher produces smart electric switches, so that we can control our home while we are away. One of their most popular switches is the remote-controlled water heater, which has been a breakthrough in the field of smart home products in Israel. In addition to it, Switcher has created many other state-of-the-art products, including digital remote controllers for air conditioners, blinds, lighting and outlets.
Research, Mapping, Information Architecture, and Wire-framing
Our research included user interviews and interviews with the customer service department to understand and address the pain points of the application's current users. As part of the process, we conducted a product mapping workshop in collaboration with the Switcher team, which helped us understand how the app was initially planned, and what might its customer hope to receive from it in the future.
Research: Moving Forward
After creating user personas and deepening our understanding of their roles in the system, we were able to generate a new information architecture that clearly separates the broad operations and information from the switch management system. Next, we redefined all the switches to achieve a dual purpose: on the one hand we provide maximum customization for each switch's needs, and on the other hand, we create a unified product language.
Through this language, users will be able to intuitively find the operational settings every time they install a new Switcher switch. In addition, we added new features and emphasized values that were not expressed in the current product, such as creating communication channels and providing feedback. Last but not least, we also added a feature that reflects to the user how much money they have saved by using the Switcher app
